This week work was fairly slow. I did do a job on a backhoe replacing the high and low pressure valves for the dipper cylinder. I had all the information, all the tools, and all the parts. What I didn't know was that the book had a different answer then the service bulletin and the parts breakdown. So I was going with the book and replaced the two valves and the cylinder didn't work very well. It would hold pressure and slowly raised. I was super disappointed my first service call a failure. After I got back to the shop the guy brought his tractor in and my boss got to taking a look at it. He started switching things around and found that if you switch the high and the low relief valves that it worked great. Then to find out that the book from Kubota was wrong. So that whole story to say and remind to check all your sources of information. Make sure they all agree.
The other small Job I did on my own was replace my windshield wiper motor in my car. I started pulling things out and come to find out there was more then meets the eye to this replacement. I had to take out the dash as well. It all went well until I reassembled and the wipers tried to go down first then up which as you can imagine does not work... at all. I had hooked the linkage up the exact same way I took it apart but now I was 180 degrees off. So I took it back apart and readjusted and it works great now. Both these stories hit with me that there can always be changes or differences in the new parts or service bulletins. Check check double check and be careful. I was lucky in both cases there was no rush and no destruction.

So what did you do with the wipers? That motor WANTS to park, and will burn up or trip the thermal protection.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...there is something. Thermal protection for motors. What is that Keith? (;
