You can identify the problem of the freightliner with the scan tool. I found a few codes.Engine 1 108 Barometric pressure sensor.
-voltage above normal or shorted high.
-no count.
Brakes powerunit 5 wheel sensor ABS axle 3 left
-current below normal or open circuit.
-no count
Brakes 11 pressure modulation valvle ABS axle 3 left.
The switch turns on and off to give a signal. It turns off for a bit longer then cycles 3 more times and does two long off cycles which is the top dead center. the first on is to let it know that TDC is coming up.
I thought it was pretty cool to be a able to see everything like this. So simple and i bet in the future you will be able to tell the computer to sit at TDC and it will and we will have plug ins on every sensor without have to unhook anything.

Nov 14th "day 33 sheet"
1 The affect of antifreeze on the radiator size is that with more glycol it has less ambient capability, about 1.8F for each 10% up to 50%. So with more antifreeze in the system you would need a larger radiator.
2 Detonation is when the fuel/air ignites and the flame front travels across the chamber. The end fuel gets too hot from compression from the flame front, a hot spot, bad fuel and combusts. The two flames collide and create a ping or "knock".
3 Deciding on when to service your machine should come from usage. how much how many hours and what conditions your working in.
4 “Combustion air flow requirements will vary, depending on the specific engine model and rating. Specific air flow data for Caterpillar engines is given in both…” Volumetric and mass readings.

Nov 13th "Dodge"
So today i worked on the dodge. looking up the intake heaters and fuel control and using the scan tool on the truck itself.
The FCA is the fuel control actuator. it controls the pressure of the fuel to atomize the fuel. The minimum psi it can run at is 9.5psi below that the warning comes on. There are two intake heaters, each heater gets 95 amps at 12 volts to heat.
On the Dodge The codes for inj. 1-6 were on that they aren't working properly. Also the code for the intake heaters was on.
Turning the wipers and horn on were under the Body(fcm) section.
It was actually a lot of fun to work with the scan tool to do those things. really amazing how much you can get to on the vehicle from the computer even in a 2003. I learned that with the right tools and in the right situation you don't have to open the hood and get led astray to diagnose the problem.

Nov 4th " finding my place"
This week at work I got to finish sprucing up an old John Deere with alot of new paint. Learning that i do like to pay attention to the details alot. Also cleaning up some tractors and learning how the new company likes things done. you have to take note of everything and not just assume. At school i did some work with sensors when i had time outside class time. i worked with a position sensor and a pressure sensor. i still need to mess with the pressure sensor and how to hook up to the wires. WOndering if there is a general plan for color coding so i can know what to go to right away and not just try and guess my way through it. Also at work i have been doing some small put together stuff like excavator thumbs and buckets. its all just good progress in the right direction for where i want to be.
