SPQ13 Keith

This past week I tore into a tn85 a new Holland. The radiator had a hole in it and we needed to get it checked out. I had a lot of fun tearing into it and I am getting a lot better about knowing I can get everything back together. We pulled off a hose with JIC connected. the face of the angle had grooves around it. and the fitting we pulled off the frame has JIC one side and straight thread with a seal on the other side. I didn't have time to get the fitting all figured out but it will be back because it leaks. I think it was the face leaking for sure but I don't know if the seal was bad. The biggest thing I am noticing is how I have been able to pull from things I have learned. Recently I have been able to pull the information with ease which makes me more confident in my work.

Last week I did a lot of driving. I had one pick up. It was a dead tractor and when I got there I saw there was no way that I could get it on the deck. So I had no tools and no wires and had to jump start it. So I pulled out a key ring and stretched it out and used that to jump start the machine and get it on the truck.  All that to say I learned to stay calm in new situations and think long about all the possibilities you never know what your capable of.  think outside the box because practicing tis can make it easier when your stuck in a really bad way.

I am also enjoying learning about all the troubleshooting with electrical and hydraulic circuits. Troubleshooting is the thing that I want to be the best at. I know that it is very important and can make all the difference and for me its mostly fun!

This week I was out for most of it sick. I did look up two terms that I did not know from Jeff's list. I looked up candle power and power. I learned that candle power is the beam focus or amount of light for a given area. These lights are usually for long range like spot lights. The lumen is the general term but a standard for how much light no matter what the focus is.
I also learned or refreshed that power is the rate at which you do something. So for a light it is the rate of electrical consumption measured in Watts.

This week work was fairly slow. I did do a job on a backhoe replacing the high and low pressure valves for the dipper cylinder. I had all the information, all the tools, and all the parts. What I didn't know was that the book had a different answer then the service bulletin and the parts breakdown. So I was going with the book and replaced the two valves and the cylinder didn't work very well. It would hold pressure and slowly raised. I was super disappointed my first service call a failure. After I got back to the shop the guy brought his tractor in and my boss got to taking a look at it. He started switching things around and found that if you switch the high and the low relief valves that it worked great. Then to find out that the book from Kubota was wrong. So that whole story to say and remind to check all your sources of information. Make sure they all agree.
The other small Job I did on my own was replace my windshield wiper motor in my car. I started pulling things out and come to find out there was more then meets the eye to this replacement. I had to take out the dash as well. It all went well until I reassembled and the wipers tried to go down first then up which as you can imagine does not work... at all. I had hooked the linkage up the exact same way I took it apart but now I was 180 degrees off. So I took it back apart and readjusted and it works great now. Both these stories hit with me that there can always be changes or differences in the new parts or service bulletins. Check check double check and be careful. I was lucky in both cases there was no rush and no destruction.

Just did my homework releaning how to color schematics and navigating BTC.
I learned today or at least I am refreshed of the topic that if you are not practicing a
skill that you picked up on then it can so easily fall off the radar and with that out
of your brain. Coloring schematics was one of those for me i enjoy it and recognize the
benefits, but not using it makes it tuff to remember.
